Leece "doesn't remember" where he walked at time of fires

Wed, 11 Aug 2010

A court has heard how police asked a man accused of murder why he was walking around the area at the time the fatal fire was started.

CCTV captured Simon Paul Leece leaving his home shortly before the fires in Peveril Street and Clark Street were started and returning over half an hour later.

It also shows him leaving just over 20 minutes before the blaze on Demesne Road was reported to the emergency services.

61 year old Terry Losh was killed in that fire in March last year.

Leece was asked why he hid behind a parked car outside his home whilst heading out for the second time, but said he couldn't remember as he's been drinking.

The transcripts are to be the final piece of evidence in the prosecution's case.

Leece denies seven charges of arson and one murder charge.

The trial continues.
