A member of the Council of Ministers says forcing members of Tynwald to disclose all their income could put people off standing for elections.

Education Minister Eddie Teare believes prospective MHKs and MLCs would decide against standing if this was the case.

Minister Teare recently announced that he has taken a voluntary 10% pay cut.

Malew and Santon MHK Graham Cregeen commented this week that the cut is nothing to the Education Minister, but that other MHKs would struggle if this reduction was made mandatory.

Mr Teare says good candidates could decide not to seek election if they had to make their earnings public [play clip]
