It's hoped the launch of an on-Island pacemaker service will save the Department of Health a significant amount of money.

Currently, patients needing a pacemaker have to travel to the North West.

The Department now employs a doctor experienced in fitting the heart pacing device.

It also means follow up appointments can be attended on the Island.

Health Minister David Anderson says it will mean extra work, but it will save cash [play clip]
