MHKs asks if government tries to influence judiciary

A politician wants to know if the Manx Government tries to interfere with the decisions of the courts.

 

The question will be asked by Onchan MHK Peter Karran in the House of Keys next week.

 

He wants to know if an independent inquiry can be carried out to see whether the government has motivated or influenced the judiciary or police for political reasons.

 

Mr Karran's questions come after the sentencing of a local advocate for money laundering.

 

In court it was heard that the Attorney General had expressed that Jenny Holt's punishment should be strong enough to send out a wider message.
