Copper thieves target railway

Fri, 04 Mar 2011

The Manx Electric Railway has been targeted by thieves who've stolen overhead power lines.

The cables are made from copper which has increased in value recently.

It's the third theft of copper reported in the last week.

The power lines were taken from a remote section of the tram lines between Ballagawne Road and Baldrine Road.

They were taken between midday on Tuesday and 3pm on Wednesday.

It's believed a vehicle and trailer have been used to transport them.

Police describe it as a crime against the national heritage of the Isle of Man.

Onchan police are seeking information.
