Asbestos fears over old steam engines

Sat, 05 Mar 2011

The Director of Public Transport on the Island says housing old steam engines is causing an asbestos problem at the railways.

Ian Longworth says the engines belong to the Isle of Man Rail and Tramway Preservation Society, but that the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure currently houses them.

However, Mr Longworth says the engines are now causing a problem, and that he needs the space for the new season.

He told Granada Reports that the asbestos could spread if it's not taken away [play clip]
