Final stage for Civil Partnerships in Tynwald

Tue, 15 Mar 2011

The final step to allow civil partnerships on the Isle of Man will go before Tynwald today.

The Civil Partnerships Fees Order will be put to Tynwald during this month's sitting.

Same sex couples will be able to have a civil partnership from the start of the next tax year in April.

It also means they will have the same rights as hetrosexual married couples regarding pensions, tax allowances and estates.

Economic Development Minister Allan Bell has taken the Bill through the House of Keys. He told Granada Reports that it marks the end of a twenty year journey for the Island [play clip]
