Unpopular ticket booking fee scrapped

Fri, 01 Apr 2011

Booking fees on tickets for the Villa Marina and Gaiety Theatre are to be scrapped.

The unpopular charge was brought in a year ago.

Minister David Cretney says it had already been planned when he got the job at the Department of Community, Culture and Leisure.

He says it's a 'crude' way of bringing in more money.

People wanting seats for shows have been charged an extra £1 per ticket for booking online.

Mr Cretney says if the fee can't be applied fairly, then it shouldn't be applied at all.[Play audio file below]
