Douglas Council is to hold a special meeting after the story of a young mother who's being evicted from her home hit the headlines.

Stevie-Lea Evans had shared the house in Pulrose with her father who died in tragic circumstances last year.

Soon after her dad's death, the 19 year old found out she was expecting a baby.

Her daughter was born prematurely five weeks ago and has been too ill to leave hospital.

Miss Evans and her fiancee have been asked to get out of their home by 29th April, having been told they're not entitled to keep living in the father's house.

South Douglas MHK David Cretney has written to the council in support of Miss Evans, who is on the waiting list for a house.

Mr Cretney says he knows the local authority has a policy, but he's urging members to show a little bit of compassion in this case.[Play audio file below]

A Facebook group set up in protest of the corporation's decision has gained over 2,000 members.
