Future of Solway Harvester to be discussed

Mon, 20 Jun 2011

An MHK will ask about the future of the Solway Harvester in this month's sitting of Tynwald.

Seven men died when the scallop dredger sank off the Manx coast in 2000.

Its rusting remains still lie in Douglas Harbour, despite calls to move it from public view.

It's had to be kept throughout legal proceedings, the most recent being civil action against the boat's former owner in Scotland.

The Solway Harvester now belongs to the Department of Infrastructure.

Two and half years ago, it was announced the boat will be eventually be scrapped at the Ramsey Shipyard.

The families of the dead men were asked before this method of disposal was agreed.

Onchan MHK Peter Karran will ask the Infrastructure Minister for an update on the situation.
