Last minute talks to try to avert bus strike

Thu, 30 Jun 2011

We're still waiting to hear if a potential bus strike will definitely go ahead.

Last minute meetings are taking place as bus drivers threaten industrial action.

They're due to walk out next Tuesday and Wednesday in a row over changes to terms and conditions.

These came about following a review of bus timetables.

Bus drivers here earn an average of £36,000 a year and there's been criticism from some people that they're already a lot better off than their UK counterparts.

Steve Salter from the union Unite told Granda Reports drivers in the Isle of Man work longer hours than in the United Kingdom.[play media file below]
