Plans in place for more coastal rescues

Thu, 21 Jul 2011

The Island's Director of Harbours says increasing the work load of the Island's coastguard won't need more funds or resources.

Captain Mike Brew says the Coastguard and Marine Operation Centre already take responsibility for much of the work in the Island's territorial waters.

Currently, around 20% of rescues are co-ordinated by Liverpool Coastguard, which is due to be closed in around two years.

Captain Brew explains that the Island is already preparing for when this happens [play clip]
