Manx cycling star Mark Cavendish is now one of the favourites to win the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year Award.

The newly crowned road race world champion has been nominated in the last two years, and is second favourite with the bookmakers for this year's award, behind golfer Darren Clarke.

Athlete Mo Farah and golfer Rory McIlroy are also amongst the front runners.

As well as winning the rainbow jersey at the World Championships at the weekend, Cav also became the first British rider to win the Tour de France green jersey earlier this year.

The award ceremony takes place on December 22nd
