A major rescue effort was launched after a woman fell into a stream whilst walking at Glen Rushen.

Fire and ambulance crews were called out at around 1.30 yesterday afternoon, after the woman fell and was complaining of back pain whilst slipping in and out of consciousness.

The emergency services rescue was sped up by a group of local off road motorcyclists helping officers reach the scene, which was on difficult terrain.

An RAF helicopter was called in, but was later stood down.

The woman was taken to Noble's Hospital for assessment and treatment.

Crews spent around two hours at the scene, and are thanking the motorcyclists, the Laxey Mines Research Group and a local farmer for their assistance throughout the rescue.
