Government clamp-down on untaxed cars

Wed, 05 Oct 2011

The government believes around £300,000 a year is being lost in revenue from untaxed vehicles.

A survey has revealed that on average 4% of motors on the Island's roads aren't taxed.

The Department of Infrastructure had only carried out enforcement in central Douglas but recently it's launched an Island-wide crackdown.

Over the coming months it plans to get tougher on car tax dodgers.

The maximum penalty is £1,000.

Reminder letters are being sent to people who haven't paid vehicle duty.
