A Manx racing driver has escaped injury after being caught up in the fifteen car crash that killed an IndyCar champion.

Former Port Soderick resident Alex Lloyd's car was seen to catch fire.

Marshals had to help him from the car as it went up in flames.

It was part of the same incident at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway that killed British driver Dan Wheldon yesterday.

Lloyd has since tweeted that this is one of the saddest days of his life, and that Wheldon was a great champion and true friend
