Feeding seagulls could be banned under new byelaws

Wed, 02 Nov 2011

The Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture says new laws are being drawn up to reduce the nuisance caused by seagulls.

Phil Gawne says byelaws are being developed for Douglas Council, which could then be introduced in other areas of the Island.

Onchan MHK David Quirk asked the Minister what the policy is regarding seagulls, and whether anything can be done to relieve the problems they cause.

Mr Gawne says gulls are generally a matter for local authorities.

He explains that the byelaws being written for Douglas will prevent members of the public feeding the birds [play clip]
