Missing tortoise prompts police appeal

Thu, 17 Nov 2011

Manx police have issued an unusual appeal for help in finding a 25 year old tortoise that's gone missing from a house in Douglas.

A family in the Woodbourne Road/Woodside Terrace area say their pet, named 'Rupert,' disappeared from an enclosed back garden sometime between last Wednesday and Friday.

Owner Kevin Walton is worried because the animal needs specialist care and is due to hibernate soon.

It's not known if Rupert has wandered off on his own or if he's been stolen.

If someone has taken him, Mr Walton urges them to bring the pet back, even if this just means leaving him in a box on the doorstep.

If anyone finds Rupert, they're asked to bring him to the nearest police station.
