MDAI to be illegal from January

Wed, 14 Dec 2011

A party drug which led to the death of a Ramsey teenager will be banned on the Isle of Man from January.

The Island's politicians voted to make MDAI a controlled substance in Tynwald yesterday.

The drug, also known as sparkle, is often marketed online as a designer drug or a legal high.

Health Minister David Anderson brought a motion to Tynwald asking for the substance to be made illegal.

The move comes after the Coroner of Inquests called for the drug to be banned following the death of 17 year old Tanya Hughes in April.

The new restrictions will be in place from the first of January
