Views sought on local authority pension changes

Thu, 15 Dec 2011

Plans to change the way Local Authority workers pay into their pensions have gone out for public consultation.

The Department of Infrastructure wants to change the current scheme, where the majority of workers pay 6% of their pay into their pensions.

The changes would see workers paying between 5.5% and 7.5% depending on their salary.

Those earning less than £12,000 a year will pay 5.5%, whilst top earners who get more than £75,000 will pay 7.5%.

The Department of Infrastructure says it wants the scheme to remain affordable and sustainable.

The full details of the proposals can be found on the Government's website.

All comments must be made by February 17th next year.
