New HPV jab now cost effective

Tue, 28 Feb 2012

Health Chiefs say they're switching to a different brand of cervical cancer vaccine now that it's being offered at a competitive price.

Health Minister David Anderson confirmed in the House of Keys earlier this month that a different brand of HPV vaccine will be offered to girls on the Island from September.

Gardasil protects against cervical cancer and genital warts.

The Department currently uses Cervarix, as it was the most cost effective option when the vaccination program was brought in three years ago.

Uptake of the jab has been around 90%.
