Prostesters to demonstrate over library closures

Mon, 05 Mar 2012

Another protest will be staged this week by campaigners trying to save government library services from closure.

Cutbacks by the Department of Education will lead to the loss of the Family Library on Westmoreland Road in Douglas and the Mobile Library.

Protesters will gather outside the Family Library from 10.30 on Saturday morning.

It coincides with an open day being held there.

Campaigners say they will be highlighting the importance of the services for the young, elderly and vulnerable on the Island

An online petition opposing the loss of the facilities has gained over 1,700 signatures.
