OFT warns against buying potentially dangerous bedding

Fri, 16 Mar 2012

The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading is warning the public not to buy from door to door tradesmen offering cheap bedding for sale.

The OFT says items such as memory foam mattresses, mattress toppers and pillows being sold in such a manner may appear to be a bargain, but they could fail to meet safety laws.

Genuine traders will be aware of the safety requirements.

Unsafe items may come in unbranded boxes.

Those caught selling goods that don't meet safety legislation could face a 6 month jail sentence, a £5000 fine and they may have their merchandise confiscated.

Anyone who has purchased such an item from a doorstep trader and is concerned about its safety should contact trading standards on 686520 for advice.
