Department of Health works to reduce missed appointments

Tue, 27 Mar 2012

The Department of Health is trying to cut the number of missed hospital and GP appointments.

8,400 people failed to show up at clinics at Noble's last year and it's thought around 3.5% of appointments are missed at doctor's surgeries.

Missed hospital appointments cost the department £1.2m last year.

One GP practice has had some success with a mobile phone line, which people can text to cancel their appointments.

Health Minister David Anderson told the House of Keys that a text service has also been trialled at the hospital.[Play media file below]
