MHK wants independent review on Manx independence

Mon, 09 Jul 2012

An MHK wants the government to explore what potential benefits there could be if the Isle of Man were to break its ties with the United Kingdom.

Member for Rushen Laurence Skelly will raise the matter in Tynwald tomorrow.

He wants Chief Minister Allan Bell to make a statement after Jersey's Deputy Chief Minister made a call for the Channel Island to be ready for independence.

Mr Skelly says it's easy to point out the down sides to the Isle of Man being independent, but he says the benefits haven't been examined for a number years.
