The Infrastructure Minister has paid tribute to the efforts to his department's work force after they successfully got the Mountain Road ready for the start of the Manx Grand Prix festival.

Torrential rains on Friday caused flooding and damage to many roads on the Island, with considerable damage to areas of the Mountain Road in particular.

The water running onto the road caused the surface to lift at both the 32nd Milestone and at Keppel Gate, with a break up in the surface on the approach to the 32nd Milestone.

David Cretney praised the infrastructure teams who removed and replaced around 15 feet of road in time for the first scheduled practice on Saturday.
