Sat, 25 Aug 2012

A Manx competitor has died after crashing at Alexander Drive in Douglas during Friday night’s qualifying session.

Steve Osborne, 60, came off his bike just before the Quarterbridge roundabout and was rushed to Noble’s Hospital.

He was later confirmed as dead as a result of his injuries.

Mr Osborne was an IT consultant with the government. He had first competed in motorcycling in 1967 at the age of just 16.

He finished fifth in this year’s Support race at the Pre-TT Classic on a 500cc Suzuki.

Chairman of the Manx Motor Cycle Club Harvey Garton said he was one of the great characters around the paddock and he will be a great loss to the sport.

Mr Osborne was married and his next of kin has been informed.
