Esther Rantzen outlines what the elderly stand to get out of 'Silverline'

Fri, 07 Sep 2012

TV personality Esther Rantzen has expanded on what her proposed Silverline telephone service will offer to the elderly people it’s aimed at.

Former ‘That’s Life’ presenter Esther has set out to tackle the hidden problems of loneliness and isolation felt among elderly people living on their own.

The phone line concept is a tried and tested formula for Esther, who famously launched child line in 1986 which is still going strong today.

Silver line will act as an outlet for those people who may need help with simple day to day tasks like sorting out bills, it will also provide a friendly voice for those who just want a chat.

Esther told us more about the ‘Befrienders’ and how none will actually be based on Island.
