New plans to tackle river pollution

Sat, 10 Nov 2012

The Island will benefit from a more joined up effort towards major pollution incidents in the rivers and coastal waters.

That’s according to the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture which has produced a new emergency response plan to help ensure a timely and effective response.

Civil defence volunteers will now be trained up in pollution response training so they are able to respond to out of hour’s emergency calls.

Environmental protection unit manager Dr Phil Styles says the new plan also saves money
