Sellafield Ltd prosecuted over waste disposal

Fri, 16 Nov 2012

Sellafield Limited is to be prosecuted over a waste disposal incident.

It’s alleged the company sent four bags of low-level radioactive waste from its West Cumbria site to a nearby site for disposal in 2010.

The company faces nine charges, to be heard before Workington Magistrates Court on 12 December 2012.

Eight charges have been brought by the Environment Agency and one charge brought by the Office for Nuclear Regulation.

The news comes in the same week as DEFA Minister Phil Gawne has criticised the decommissioning process of the nuclear power plant for being held up by too many outside factors.
