Numbers of obese kids on the increase

The number of children classed as obese or overweight on the Island is increasing.

To try and combat this the Department of Health has launched a new plan to tackle the problem.

It wants to make sure all children and young people are maintaining a healthy weight through eating well and being active.

Poor diets, which are high in fat and sugar, and inactive lifestyles are being blamed for the problem which can go on to cause conditions including diabetes and asthma.

Public Health Strategist Dawn Henley says the statistics are quite shocking:
