Tynwald vote in favour of student fee contribution

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

It has now been made official, from 2014 Manx students will have to contribute towards their university education.

Tynwald voted in favour of the proposals which will see a minimum annual contribution of £2,500, with higher charges for those with parents who earn over £100,000 per year.

From the House of Keys 15 voted for with 8 against, with 2 against and 7 in favour in the legislative council.

Prior to the vote various members stated their strong opposition, saying the morals behind it directly opposed government's mission statement.

As had previously been outlined there will be a loan system in place for those pupils who otherwise would struggle to pay their way.
