Community spirited people to be recognised

Thu, 20 Jun 2013

People who showed ‘exceptional’ community spirit during the severe weather the Island faced in March will be honoured later.

Over 200 people who worked through the worst snow storms in 50 years have been invited to the Lieutenant Governor’s house for a special reception.

It’s an annual event – held in honour of the Queen’s birthday – which recognises people for their efforts in a particular sector.

This year the guests will be from the emergency services, MEA, Water and Sewerage Authority, government and farming community.

Adam Wood says it’s a way of saying thank you to those who worked for long hours in extreme conditions to protect lives and restore normality.
