7 petitions for redress of grievance handed in on Tynwald Day

Sat, 06 Jul 2013

As tradition dictates Friday’s Tynwald Day ceremony provided members of the public with the chance to hand in a petition for redress of grievance.

This part of the ceremony dates back over a thousand years and is seen as a last attempt to have a grievance aired once all other channels have been exhausted.

This year saw seven people come forward in total, their petitions will now be viewed by MHK’s who will have the chance to progress them further and bring them before the House of Keys.

Among this year’s weighty issues were appeals for better disability benefits, improved systems in place to help children when their parents are separating and the call for a review of the health service complaints process.
