MHK aims to buy back youth centre

Fri, 16 Aug 2013

An Onchan MHK has launched a campaign to save a drop-in centre for young people in the village.

Peter Karran is a trustee of Kenyon’s cafe on Main Road but sold the premises to Onchan Commissioners eight years ago to provide better services.

However, the local authority now wants to sell the site and build better services elsewhere.

Mr Karran hosted a public meeting last night in a bid to help raise £100,000 to buy the café back.

The Liberal Vannin leader says he’s written to the Lottery Trust in a bid to secure funding but this will still fall short of the required amount.
