Campaigner wants community use for phone boxes

A campaigner leading the fight to save six traditional phone boxes says she wants to salvage them for use in the community.

Manx Telecom has announced plans to decommission the telephone boxes - including five iconic red ones - in December saying they are too expensive to maintain.

They cost £600 each per year but generate less than £10.

Over 500 people have now signed an online petition campaigning against their removal.

Campaign spokeswoman Christine Cowley says they could have many different uses:
