Teams who battled to clear roads and restore power yesterday are being praised.

The Department of Infrastructure has thanked staff for working through the ‘atrocious’ conditions.

Winds of up to 80-miles-per-hour caused widespread damage across the Island with fallen trees the main problem.

A number of people had to return to work unexpectedly to help with the clean-up operation.

The Manx Electricity Authority has also thanked its staff who dealt with power outages caused by fallen trees – restoring all power by around 10pm.
