Consultation on Freedom of Information

People are being asked to have their say on a new Freedom of Information law for the Isle of Man.

A six week public consultation will be launched next week to help government strike the balance between openness, confidentiality and cost.

Government has drawn on the experience from the UK, Jersey and Scotland to put the legislation together in an effort to support transparency and accountability.

At the moment bringing in the bill is expected to cost around half a million pounds.

Chief Minister Allan Bell says the range of information won’t be too different from what’s available under the current Code of Practice:
