MHK reacts to boundary change debate

It’s looking hopeful that the proposed constituency boundary changes will be in place in time for the 2016 election.

Yesterday three hours was spent debating the clauses and tabled amendments which had been put forward.

Rushen MHK’s Juan Watterson and Phil Gawne had been accused of trying to derail the bill with their extensive amendments; all but one were unsuccessful.

Once legislation is passed it will see 12 two seat constituencies replacing the existing system.

Mr Watterson says he feels the majority of his fellow MHK’s entered into the debate with their minds already made up:
