Justice strategy working effectively says Minister

Mon, 17 Mar 2014

Significant improvements and cost savings have been achieved since the Isle of Man's Criminal Justice Strategy was approved by Tynwald in 2012.

That's according to the Department of Home Affairs - which says there has been a 21 per cent reduction in public money spent on legal aid.

Overall, savings of more than £500,000 have been reached, with the largest decrease occurring in the court duty advocate scheme.

A review is now being undertaken to identify opportunities for structural reform within the system.

The department says the focus is now on both providing a better service for witnesses and victims of crime and speeding up access to justice.
