The family of a mother who was killed in a car crash last Saturday say she was ‘taken in the prime of her life’.

62-year-old Gwen Valentine who was from Winchester was on the Island visiting family when she was hit by a driver who didn’t stop at the scene.

The incident happened on the Tholt-y-Will road – her fiancée and son were with her at the time.

In a statement released by her family they say they are devastated and that all who knew her loved her zest for life, humour, fearlessness and compassion.

A 30-year-old man from St Johns has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
