Warning that cost of fines on Island could rise

Wed, 11 Jun 2014

The Island's fines system is being looked at - with means testing under consideration.

That's according to the Department of Home Affairs after the news that magistrates' charges in the UK could rise by 300 per cent.

It was revealed yesterday that under new plans maximum limits for offences like speeding on a motorway could hit £10,000.

The Isle of Man's highest level of fine currently sits at £5,000.

Minister Juan Watterson says our rate will soon be up for consultation:
