Manx pole vaulter has her time to shine at CWG

Sat, 02 Aug 2014

All eyes will be on Manx athlete Olivia Curran today as she makes her Commonwealth Games debut in the women's pole vault final at Hampden Park.

The 23-year-old's appearance at this year's games is nothing short of remarkable after she suffered a knee ligament injury four years ago.

Olivia arrived at the last games in Delhi in 2010 expecting to become the first ever Manx female gymnast to compete - but was forced out of the competition, and almost out of professional sport altogether.

Despite being unable to walk, she fought her way back to full fitness and after successfully adopting the sport of pole vault.

The Ramsey woman now finally has the chance to represent the Isle of Man.
