Full works on Douglas sea wall cost too much

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne says the cost implications are too great for any immediate works to be carried out on the Douglas sea wall.

Questions were raised on the effectiveness of the sea wall earlier in the year, after extensive flooding of Douglas promenade.

Minister Gawne says although the wall will be good for at least another 30 years, there are other works that could be carried out that could minimise the effects of future high tides during stormy conditions.

He told us that, unfortunately, a total overhaul would not be financially possible in the immediate future:
