A rider who crashed during the IMGold Senior Manx Grand Prix race suffered massive blunt force trauma.

Today the inquest into Gary Firth's death was officially opened at Douglas Courthouse.

The 50-year-old plumber, who was from Barnsley, was involved in a collision at the 11th Milestone during the race on August 29th.

A post-mortem showed he’d suffered cardiac arrest after suffering massive trauma to his head and body – in particular his pelvis and abdomen.

Coroner John Needham released his body to the family and adjourned the inquest to a date to be fixed.
