Public have their say on modern languages in schools

Thu, 02 Oct 2014

German and Spanish should be off schools' language menu according to the public.

It comes after Onchan MHK Zac Hall claimed '21st century' languages like Mandarin and Spanish should be put on the curriculum instead of traditionally taught languages like French and German.

You've been having your say - Dawne says many students don't progress to GCSE German anyway and Lorna told us options to take either Manx or German are no better.

Elaine and Andrew believe that more time needs to be spent on additional English in schools, never mind other languages.

Whilst Sophie explains that teaching French and Spanish is a good idea, whereas Mandarin might not meet school time restraints.
