Vandalism spree lands man with compensation bill

Fri, 03 Oct 2014

A "drunken spree of vandalism" has left a Douglas man footing a £900 compensation bill.

25-year-old Daniel Fick was also handed a 12-month probation order after pleading guilty to damaging three cars in July.

Earlier this week Douglas Courthouse heard how he had been out drinking with friends at a house party but had a "significant emotional outburst" when leaving.

He proceeded to kick three vehicles - the sound of the impact woke the neighbours who called the police.

Defending him his advocate said he had lost control of his emotions and although it was a deliberate act to lash out at the cars it was not pre-mediated or targeted.

Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him he had caused "considerable distress, cost and inconvenience" to the vehicle owners and the courts would not tolerate this behaviour.

He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs and banned from entering on-licensed premises or buying alcohol for six months.
