Rates won't go up if local authorities take on government services

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

The Infrastructure Minister has launched a discussion on the future of local service provision.

Minister Gawne wants to know if there is a willingness among local authorities to take on some of the roles currently provided by central government.

His proposals would see things like hedge cutting, street sweeping and public toilet provision transferred to the local authorities.

We asked the Minister if it would result in a cost impact to ratepayers.
