Smart cards to be introduced for public transport users

Smart cards will be introduced for bus and rail passengers from January next year.

The Go cards will be rolled out to students first who will be made to pay 25 pence per journey.

MHK Kate Beecroft who has responsibility for public transport says the swipe system should be easy to use.

Following this it's planned to roll the system out to other service users in an effort to enable buses to run with increased efficiency.

Mrs Beecroft says that should ultimately provide a cost saving:
