Rate freeze for Port St Mary residents

Port St Mary ratepayers are being assured their rates will remain unchanged over the next year.

The figure will remain at 306p in the pound.

The freeze comes despite the commissioners taking on new responsibilities devolved from the Department of Infrastructure - they include street cleaning, gulley emptying and hedge maintenance.

Refuse disposal is the biggest single cost with the commissioner's saying they think this cost will have reduced by 20 per cent by 2016.
